It seems like everyday we’re hearing about the latest and greatest trends in group workouts. Last week it was pilates, yesterday it was spin classes, and today it’s kickboxing. It seems impossible to keep up! Our goal at FitHealth is to hopefully walk you through the latest trends in workout classes, walk you through what these classes consist, and finally, and personally I think most importantly, is help you determine which class is the best for you in order to maintain the happy and healthy lifestyle we believe you deserve!
New and Improved Pilates
Now I know what you might be thinking, Pilates is so 2017.. BUT what you might not know is they’ve been developing new machines and techniques to accomplish a different type of workout. If you’ve tried pilates before and enjoyed it, this might be a great way to try something you know you already love with a new fun twist!
Kickboxing
Kickboxing classes have been growing in popularity in the past year or so. Kickboxing classes definitely pack a real punch(see what I did there). It’s a perfect in between for those who find boxing appealing but aren’t too keen on the idea of fighting an actual person. Most classes are high intensity and high energy and will definitely whoop you into shape. This is one of the few group workout classes that can guarantee to give you a true full body workout so if that’s something that’s important for you, this just may be the class for you!
Black Light Yoga
The best way to describe black light yoga to you is a mash up of Zumba, Spin, and Yoga. Although I haven’t taken a class myself, from my understanding it’s similar to the “club like” feel most spin classes offer by playing more upbeat music and of course, if you couldn’t tell by the name, the room is obviously lit with black light. While the exercise itself is more of a dance inspired yoga session. Personally, this seems like a pretty fun time for those that have been interested in trying out yoga but maybe aren’t so interested in the typical slow meditative pace of most yoga classes.
Bokwa
One of the newest group workout classes is Bokwa, and no I did not just sneeze. It’s a class similar to Zumba but with more of a South-African inspiration when it comes to dance moves. This is definitely right up your alley if you’re a fan of Zumba and other dance fitness classes.
Aerial Fitness
Aerial Fitness has gained popularity over the past year or so. This is basically a strength-based class where you spend the class on a 30-foot ribbon hung from the ceiling. Of course class difficulty ranges from beginner to more advanced so if you’re not a pro at hanging from the ceiling on a piece of ribbon don’t sweat it! This is overall more of a slow moving class focused on strengthening both your core and arms. So if you’re looking for a slower moving class that still gives you a great workout and maybe had dreams of joining the circus when you were young this may just be the class for you.
The great thing about having a such a variety of group workout classes is that there is something for everybody. We totally understand that sometimes working out feels like more of an obligation than anything else and it can be difficult to stay motivated. We challenge you to try switching up your routine and trying something out of your comfort zone this week!
